Travel Insurance – What You Need to Know Before Your Expedition

Travel insurance is mandatory for all polar expeditions. It protects you in remote locations where access to medical help is limited and rescue operations can be complex and costly.

Why Travel Insurance Is Required

Expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic operate far from hospitals and emergency services. If something goes wrong, evacuation might involve helicopters or chartered aircraft. Your insurance must cover:

  • Emergency medical treatment
  • Medical evacuation and repatriation
  • Your full travel period

You are free to choose your own insurance provider, but you must share your policy details with us after booking.

Minimum Insurance Coverage Required

Depending on your destination, your policy must meet the following minimum limits:

  • Arctic: 50,000 EUR/USD
  • Antarctica & Sub-Antarctic Islands: 100,000 EUR/USD
  • Ross Sea: 300,000 EUR/USD

These amounts are required by our cruise partners and cannot be waived.
